Jewellery Care

MELT pieces are made to be worn. Silver and gold develop character as they move through time and contact with the body. With considered care, each piece will maintain its form and surface.

STERLING SILVER

All of MELT JEWELLERY is cast in solid 925 sterling silver. Silver naturally reacts to air, skin chemistry and environment, which may cause it to darken. This is a reversible surface change.

To care for your silver:

  • Store in a dry place when not worn preferably in its pouch to slow oxidisation
  • Avoid contact with perfume, lotion, sunscreen, chlorine, bleach and household cleaning products
  • Remove when swimming, showering, exercising or in humid environments such as saunas and steam rooms
  • If the surface becomes dull use a silver polishing cloth to restore sheen
  • For a deeper clean use warm water with a small amount of mild soap and rub gently. Rinse and dry completely before storing

Silver often looks its best when worn frequently. The natural oils in the skin help maintain its lustre.

GOLD VERMEIL

Our gold vermeil pieces are made from a solid sterling silver base with a thick layer of gold. This provides durability while retaining the feel of precious metal. Over time, the gold layer may soften depending on wear.

To care for vermeil:

  • Avoid contact with moisturisers, perfumes, abrasive surfaces and cleaning products
  • Remove before swimming, showering or exercising
  • Clean gently with a soft polishing cloth (no chemical cleaners)
  • Re-plating can be arranged if the surface wears with time for added cost

SOLID GOLD

Solid gold maintains its surface with minimal care, though it can still dull through everyday contact.

To care for gold:

  • Store separately to avoid scratching
  • Clean occasionally with warm water and mild soap and dry fully
  • Use a soft polishing cloth to restore shine

GEMSTONES

Gemstones vary in hardness and porosity. Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners and extended moisture. Clean with warm water, mild soap and a soft cloth. Do not soak porous stones such as opal, turquoise or pearls.
